Biography

Georgia Oakley (born 1988) is an English filmmaker and screenwriter. Born in Basingstoke and raised in Oxfordshire, she attended Heathfield School and studied English Literature at Newcastle University before embarking on a creative path that led her to directing branded content in-house at Channel 4. Alongside that work, she began making short films, gaining recognition on the international festival circuit with titles such as Frayed, Callow & Sons, Little Bird, We Did Not Fall from the Sky, and Bored, which have screened at events including SXSW, Tribeca, the New York Film Festival, the Galway Film Fleadh, and Berlin’s Short Film Festival. Her 2017 short film Little Bird premiered at Tribeca and was later adapted into a television series; it earned nominations at Tribeca, St. Louis, and other international festivals. Oakley’s debut feature film Blue Jean premiered at the 2022 Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Giornate degli Autori Audience Award—also known as the People’s Choice Award—during Venice Days. The film also screened at the 2022 BFI London Film Festival and opened theatrically in the UK on February 10, 2023. Blue Jean received considerable critical praise and a series of awards and nominations.
